Facebook for Authors

For my New Media and Publication class at school, we have been exploring ways to promote ourselves as writers.  We have covered blogs, and this week we are talking about Facebook.  At first I didn't really believe that Facebook would be a way to promote, then I started looking at pages of other Authors.  This quickly changed my mind.

One of my favorite authors is H.P. Mallory.  She writes two series, both about witches.  They are fully of quirky characters who always make me laugh out loud.  When I looked at her Facebook Page I realized what a fantastic tool it was and she utilizes it well.

She just had a new book come out and used her page to tell all of her fans about it.  She also posted asking those fans to go to Amazon and post reviews of her new book.  What a great way to get fans to promote you.  To further promote her new book, she has a free excerpt link and is having an Online Release Party on her page.

In the past she has had contest, whoever shared her post on their Facebook page was entered in a drawing for a $50 Amazon Gift Card.  To help spread the word even more she started a "Street Team."  You can join this team and you tag her books on Amazon, post about her contest, and  share news about her on your page.

Her Facebook Page has given me many ideas as how to develop mine and has shown me just how great of a marketing tool it can be.

  1. Rebel,
Thanks for the review of H.P. Mallory's site. There were great ideas for authors to promote their work and have fun at the same time.

  2. Joan,
I really learned a lot this week. I went from thinking Facebook was a waste of time to thinking it could be a great marketing tool. Now all I have to do is finish my novel.
