I am currently trying to fine tune my plot and add a few subplots to my outline, yes I am still outling and I don't want to talk about it. I am at the point in my outline that I have most of the characters introduced and have established a few relationships or at least set the framework for them. The question I have been asking myself now is, where should I place my chapters and where should I place the climaxes.
I came across a video by Claudia Gabel and Author and Senior Editor of Katherine Tegan Books. The video is called The Writing Process: Planning Your Novel. She does a great job at breaking down all of the components needed in a novel.
She goes through establishing a pitch, or a one sentence summation of your novel, characters, and outling, you all know how I like my outling, and plot. Her thoughts on plot, how you should break up your novel in three acts and what those acts should consist of really helped me. It gave me ideas of where I should place climaxes and a rough idea where to place my chapter breaks.
Since it helped me I thought I would share. I hope that it gives someone else that light bulb moment they need to help push them further down the road of authorship.
The pitch idea is a good one. I have a notebook full of paragraph pitches. Now, I just need to complete something.
